What is CLEAN EARTH?

CLEAN EARTH (CoLlaboratory of Environmental Advocacy, Net-zEroCarbon And Renewable TecHnologies) is a group of 50 researchers, scientists and industry professionals from 17 unique disciplines and 10 institutions working together through an interdisciplinary framework to generate relevant discussions in the New England area and pathways to comprehensive solutions to these myriad of challenges through a dynamic framework.

About Us

We are an interdisciplinary research initiative designed to support decarbonization policy, climate adaptation and grid modernization through innovative technologies and science-based solutions, providing needed data and analytical support for effective decision making in managing the risks of extreme weather and high levels of penetration of intermittent wind and solar power generation; as well as societal data on community-level clean energy transitions, including communication and engagement strategies to ensure long-term sustainability and equity in energy distribution. Our motivation is to help ensure a clean energy transition built upon socially equitable and environmentally sustainable energy infrastructure and distribution that mitigates historic and contemporary energy and environmental injustices and minimizes the socio-environmental impact of future clean energy development.

To achieve the netzero carbon emission benchmarks requires more than technology, in fact, through this very transition we are witnessing a complete reshaping of the industry, politics and local economies as we know it.

We will be offering discussions centered around case studies, a seminar series and a colloquium in the fall. In addition to these, we will have outreach into the industry and local political sphere. We welcome you to explore our website to learn more about the CLEAN EARTH Initiative.

Mission

Our mission is established through a research framework that connects climatic extremes with physical/technical simulation tools and people-place-policy approaches for the reslience and sustainability of clean energy systems.
