What motivated you to join CLEAN EARTH?

I have a strong interest in understanding how the clean energy transition will affect ecosystems and the services they provide to human society. Specifically I am interested in how development of solar and other renewable energy facilities will affect forest cover and climate mitigation provided by carbon sequestration in those forests.

What aspect of your research do you find most valuable for the people and communities?

Research in our lab focuses in part on the equity of the distribution of forests and tree cover and associated ecosystem services (e.g., shading, pollution removal, stormwater interception) and disservices (e.g., damage to infrastructure during storms) across urban to exurban areas. We are also interested in developing strategies to mitigate current inequities and to promote resilience in the forest -infrastructure system to maximize benefits and minimize disservices across communities.
